LS R-7 staff members celebrate new school year at Kick-Off Meetings

// Posted By Janie Rohlfing

Lee’s Summit R-7 School District staff members celebrated the new school year at three Kick-Off Meetings, held at each high school Aug. 11. Due to the district’s number of employees — more than 2,600 — the events were held in three locations to accommodate all employees.

Speakers at the event included Bob White, Board of Education president; Michelle Uptegrove, 2016-17 Teacher of the Year and a teacher at Cedar Creek Elementary; and Dr. Brent Blevins, R-7 acting superintendent / deputy superintendent of operations. A jazz band consisting of the following R-7 music teachers also performed at each Kick-Off, including David Tourtellot on bass, Bob Harvey on trumpet; Shawn Harrel on piano; and Mike McBain on drums.

Also included was a video titled “We are Lee’s Summit R-7 Proud,” which included approximately 30 staff members, students and community members sharing their thoughts about the school district. The four-minute video is available on the district’s YouTube channel.
