Fiona Dougan, a senior art student at Lee’s Summit North High School, recently won the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District summer reading program logo contest. The competition was sponsored by the school district’s library media specialists and is designed to promote student literacy and student art.
More than a dozen students submitted artwork for the contest from Lee’s Summit R-7 high schools and middle schools. This is the fourth summer reading program logo contest during the past 12 years.
Fiona’s winning design will be printed on several thousand backpack-style bags. Middle and high school librarians will give a free bag to each student who completes a designated number of books.
Michael Russell, library media specialist at LSNHS, visited Fiona’s art class on Feb. 14 to announce Fiona’s award. She also receives a $100 prize for creating the winning logo.
