Lee’s Summit West High School’s Industrial Department recently received a $300 grant from the Lee’s Summit Woodworker’s Guild. The 50/50 grant matched an additional $300 provided by LSWHS.
The department will be using the funds to purchase equipment to sharpen wood lathe tools for student use. The goal is to help students become more interested in woodworking. This is the second time that Lee’s Summit West has received a grant from the Woodworker’s Guild.
Jay Helland and Roy Wall of the guild presented a $300 check to the department on Aug. 31. Mr. Wall is president of the Woodworker’s Guild. Mr. Helland is a guild board member as well as a retired Lee’s Summit R-7 staff member who began his career as an industrial technology teacher, later becoming the district’s facilities director.
