Bookshelf Buddies

Children who grow up with access to books at home are more likely to excel in school and develop strong literacy skills.

We're looking for 30 individuals or groups to sponsor a bookshelf to empower Pre-K students with a love of reading and provide more access to books at home.

Here's how the LSR7 Bookshelf Buddy program will work:

Sponsor a bookshelf: Your $250 commitment kicks off a process to provide a pre-K student in our school boundaries with a bookshelf stocked with engaging and age-appropriate books to bring home.

Crafted with care: Thanks to our donors' generosity, we get to work! Our talented high school woodworking students spend the winter and spring handcrafting beautiful bookshelves that are just the right size for a pre-K learner. They adorn each bookshelf with a nameplate celebrating its student, and we find an opportunity for you to write an inspiring message on the back.

Save the Date: Our program culminates in a Breakfast and Books event on a Saturday morning. Both donors and receiving families join us for pancakes, a brief ceremony, a presentation of the shelves and an opportunity for students to select engaging and age-appropriate books curated by our library media specialists in a book fair style environment. Our donors are a big part of the day. You'll start the morning writing an inspiring message for a student on the back of the bookshelf you sponsored. Then, you are welcome to enjoy breakfast, help run our book fair, and interact with our bookshelf buddies in a morning of fun.

1. Fill out the commitment form below.

2. Make out a check made out to the Lee's Summit R-7 School District. Deliver to the Public Relations Department located in the Community Relations Suite of the Stansberry Leadership Center, 301 N.E. Tudor Road Lee's Summit, MO 64086.

The first 30 individuals or groups to complete these steps will be our 2026 Bookshelf Buddies.
