Board of Education Approves Lee's Summit/Westview Elementary Process Action Team
At the Dec. 19 Board meeting, the Board of Education unanimously voted to set aside bond dollars for Lee’s Summit and Westview elementaries, while deferring any decision about the district’s proposed consolidation until specific additional research and engagement could occur.
At its Jan.16 Board of Education meeting, elected officials finalized specific plans for this engagement, including the formation of an LSE/WVE Process Action Team.
The goal of the team is to make a recommendation to the Board regarding the future of Lee’s Summit Elementary and Westview Elementary with regards to the 2025 Bond. The team will analyze building data and enrollment trends, as well as district standards, MSIP standards and other data to make a recommendation. The proposals call for the make-up of this committee to be as follows:
- Facilitation and agenda development by an external consultant (TBD)
- 20 parents from Lee’s Summit Elementary
- 20 parents from Westview Elementary
- 10 at large residents/non-active parents of students in either Lee’s Summit and Westview Elementary boundaries
- 5 staff members from Lee’s Summit Elementary
- 5 staff members from Westview Elementary
- Principals at Lee’s Summit Elementary and Westview Elementary
- 3 District Administrators (Dr. David Carlson - Human Resources, Dr. Heather Kenney - Elementary Education and Kyle Gorrell - Facilities)
- Ex officio members may be needed to provide answers, materials and data, but have not been determined at this time.
The Board also voted to reconvene the District CFMP team to make a recommendation to the Board of Education on a Strategic Plan with potential thresholds that outline actions for the district to consider when buildings are declining or growing.
The updated resolution, as well as charters for both teams can be found here.
To determine membership on this committee, the district will collect interest from patrons using a form, and then hold a random drawing if interest exceeds the number of spots in each category.
