Celebrate National Family Literacy Day on November 1st

As we approach National Family Literacy Day, the LSR7 Library Department extends our gratitude for your support of our literacy initiatives. Your commitment to fostering a love for reading in our community is vital.

To mark this day join us in celebrating the joy of family literacy. Here are some fun and easy ways to make reading a family affair:

  1. Share Your Library Finds: Discuss the books and audiobooks your student(s) recently checked out. At any time you can see your child’s current checkouts, click here to learn how.
  2. Create a Cozy Reading Nook: Designate a special spot in your home with soft blankets and pillows for family reading time.
  3. Implement DEAR Time: Start a "Drop Everything and Read" hour each week. Everyone, including parents, puts aside distractions (yes, even phones!) and enjoys some quiet reading time.
  4. Listen Together: Choose an audiobook to play during chores or car rides. It's a great way to bond over stories!
  5. Start a Family Book Club: Keep it casual – simply reading the same book and chatting about it during daily activities can be incredibly rewarding.

Every moment spent reading together builds a foundation for lifelong learning. Let's make National Family Literacy Day the start of a year-round celebration of reading in our homes!

Happy reading
