LSR7 Updates: Calendar Impacts of Feb. 20 Snow Day

Due to inclement weather conditions, the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District will cancel all in-person and virtual learning tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 20. Y Club Lee’s Summit will open tomorrow at 8 a.m. at designated locations.

This cancellation marks our eleventh inclement weather day of the school year - we have used all six of our state-allotted virtual learning (AMI) days and called five traditional school closures due to weather.

Tomorrow’s inclement weather day pushes our current calendar to Monday, June 2. In order to avoid bringing the school year into June if possible, the district will ask the Board of Education tomorrow night to change the school calendar from a 170-day calendar to a 169-calendar, “forgiving” an extra day of instruction built into our calendar so that the last day of school will remain May 30, 2025 for students.

After reviewing our compliance with state statute and guidelines, it’s important to know that this is the only day we will ask the Board of Education to forgive. If we have inclement weather days beyond tomorrow, we will plan to make up instructional days in June.

We will confirm the current last day of school following the Feb. 20 Board of Education meeting. Additional updates, such as impacts to our Summer School calendar, will be communicated as necessary in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility during this season. Please stay safe and warm.
