Middle School Students Travel to Children's Literacy Festival

On March 7, 2023, students from all four middle schools attended the Children's Literature Festival at the University of Central Missouri. This field trip was sponsored by library media specialists Tracy Baker (PLMS), Christie Brown (ETMS), Sarah Eckert (BCMS), and Paula Dampier (SLMS). Students attended four presentations featuring authors Dusti Bowling, Lisa Fipps, Gary Schmidt, and Roland Smith. Each author provided real-world learning opportunities by discussing their approach to writing and the steps needed to get a book published. Students earned the field trip by reading 8 or more of the current Truman Readers Award nominee books. Many students expressed to their librarians that they hope to go on the field trip again next year.
