LSR7 Hosts Inaugural Choose to Include Event

The Lee's Summit R-7 School District and the Special Olympics hosted its first-ever Choose to Include Event Wednesday.

More than 500 students participated in the field day at Lee's Summit North's stadium. Peer buddies joined special services students who are eligible to participate in Special Olympics at different stations around the football field and track and participated in group and individual sports.

The Kansas City Chiefs also stopped by, bringing their mobile training lab, Chiefs cheerleaders, KC Wolf, the drumline, and former player Gary Spani.

In addition to encouraging inclusion in all LSR7 schools, those peers who participated in Choose to Include were given a glimpse into what it could be like to participate as a Unified Partner. Unified Partners play in sports alongside our Special Olympics athletes. Currently LSR7 has Unified basketball, bowling, and track and field teams.

Those who want to sign up to be a Unified Partner can fill out this interest form.
