Lee's Summit West Senior Ava Wischnewski was one of only two recipients of this year's Outstanding Citizenship Award from DESE.

DESE picks students to receive this honor based on civic duty, leadership, community involvement and academics, with an emphasis on government or civics courses. Typically, the award goes to 10-15 students but Ava was one of the only standouts this year.
