More than 170 LSR7 students earn Pathway to Biliteracy Award

The Lee’s Summit School District recognized 171 students in grades 1, 3, 5 and 8 for completing the requirements in English and another language for the Seal of Biliteracy Pathway Award. The Pathway Awards recognize elementary and middle school students who have sought out second language acquisition opportunities in their communities, or who have worked to maintain the native language spoken in the home. 

Students must demonstrate this second language acquisition or learning by meeting standards set at the district and state level.   

32 students are second-year recipients of this award.  13 students are third-year recipients.  The students represent all 18 elementary and all 4 middle LSR7 schools and learned the following 19 languages:  Arabic, American Sign Language, Filipino, French, German, Gujarati, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
