Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year
Summit Technology Academy teacher Rachel Mitchell has been named the Missouri Educators of Family and Consumer Sciences and Human Services (MoEFCS) Teacher of the Year. Mitchell teaches the Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation Management Program at STA's Paradise Park Campus. This award recognizes her exceptional contributions to Career and Technical Education and her unwavering commitment to student success. She'll be honored at a ceremony in July in Springfield.
UCM Modern Language Film Festival
We are incredibly proud of our modern language students and the films they created for the 18th annual UCM Modern Language Film Festival!
Talented students from Lee's Summit High School, Lee's Summit North High School, and Lee's Summit West High School achieved significant recognition at the competition. Competing against a strong field of 112 film submissions from across the Kansas City metropolitan area and Overland Park, these Lee's Summit students demonstrated exceptional filmmaking and language proficiency, earning numerous awards.
Lee's Summit West High School students led the district's success, securing an impressive 10 awards for their Chinese film "Misfortune Cookies," including top honors such as:
- Best Mystery Overall
- 2nd Best Film Overall
- Best Chinese Film
Lee's Summit North High School students also achieved remarkable recognition, earning 9 awards for their German film "Wo ist Herr Frank?":
- Best Overall Comedy
- 3rd Best Overall Film
- Best German Film
Adding to the district's accolades, Lee's Summit High School students captured 7 awards for their French film “Le Rond”:
- Best French Film
- Best Drama
- Best Advanced French Film
These outstanding results underscore the exceptional talent and dedication of Lee's Summit students and highlight the district's modern language department's commitment to fostering excellence in language acquisition and creative expression.
