Graphics & Flyers

Graphics and flyers should support accessible content — not replace it.

Flyer-style images often rely on small text, dense layouts, and visual-only design that can be difficult to read on mobile devices, translate accurately, or interpret with screen readers.

When using graphics, all essential information must also be provided as native text alongside the image. Graphics should reinforce key messages or provide visual interest, not serve as the sole source of information. Flyer images may be appropriate for printing or physical display, but they should not be relied on for digital communication.

Why This Matters

Flyer-style graphics often exclude users who rely on text-based access.

Do

  • Graphics should support full text. Critical information should always be provided in native, plain text instead of being placed inside graphics, slides, or spreadsheets.
  • Use strong color contrast in all graphics.
  • Text Graphics are OK - but they should be a billboard not a flyer.
  • Select standard fonts and characters that work well with screen readers.
  • Use Canva’s accessibility checker.

Don’t

  • Don’t post flyers as images alone
  • Don’t rely on small or dense text
