Federal Programs/Liaisons

Purpose:
Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local education agencies and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state.

Purpose:

• Increasing student achievement consistent with the Missouri Learning Standards
• Improving the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals and other school leaders
• Increasing the number of teachers, principals and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools

Funds are used to cover various Professional Development opportunities for R-7 staff and nonpublic buildings that reside within the boundaries of Lee's Summit R-7 School District.

Purpose:
Professional Development and Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students Funds are used to provide translation services, professional development for staff and materials for students.

Purpose:
Within each of these areas, local educational agencies have broad flexibilities to use the Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) program funds for a variety of activities to improve student outcomes and address the opportunity gaps identified through the needs of assessment:

• At least 20 percent of funds for activities to support well-rounded educational opportunities (ESEA section 4107)
• At least 20 percent of funds for activities to support well-rounded educational opportunities (ESEA section 4108)
• A portion of funds for activities to support the effective use of technology (ESEA section 4109).
