Advanced Studies

Advanced Studies and Recognition Program

Several unique programs (listed below) are designed to meet the needs of academically talented students.

These programs provide intellectual challenge through curriculum, which is designed to improve competitive advantage for college admission or other advanced study and increase their scholarship opportunities. 

All students who take AP and IB exams must pay the examination fee. Financial assistance is available for students who qualify. See IB/AP coordinators for more information. AP and IB exams must be taken for weighted credit. All students who
take courses for dual credit must pay college tuition. Tuition assistance is available for students who qualify. See dual credit coordinator for more information.

Courses taken in the Advanced Studies and Recognition Program receive extra weightedness in the grading system.

Students and their parents should meet with a school counselor to investigate all opportunities and options available through the programs. Please be aware that acceptance of credit through these programs is determined by individual colleges. Students and parents will also find the following brief explanations of each program helpful.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB)

The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) is a coordinated course of study at the junior-senior level linking the humanities, sciences, mathematics, and languages.

International Baccalaureate Career-Related Program (IBCP)

The IBCP is a two-year program that incorporates the rigor, vision and values of IB course work with an approved career-related qualification.

Advanced Placement (AP)

The Advanced Placement Program is essentially a way for schools to provide their stronger students with courses of study appropriate to their abilities and interests, with reasonable assurance that these studies will not be repeated at college.

Courses for Dual Credit

Dual credit students must meet or exceed eligibility requirements established by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education (CBHE).

Honors Credit

Students can take courses that meet criteria for Honors recognition.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW)

PLTW courses include nationally recognized engineering, computer science, and biomedical curriculum being offered through the Lee’s Summit School District.

Outside College and Correspondence Credit

LSR7 students may apply a maximum of 2 units of outside credits towards the total high school credits required for graduation. Students who are interested should schedule a meeting with their counselor and complete an Outside College and Correspondence Credit Request.

Summit Technology Academy

Summit Technology Academy has been recognized in the national spotlight as an innovative model to prepare juniors and seniors for high wage, high demand, and professional careers.

Missouri Innovation Campus Program - MIC Program

An innovative program that accelerates the time it takes to earn a college degree in addition to working in a high-demand internship, and you are left with a well-equipped, high school graduate. As a result of participating in one of the Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC) programs, students will be on track to earn a bachelor’s degree just two years after graduating from high school.

Articulated Credit

Articulation agreements and credit by certification are set up for certain career, technical or occupational courses that are offered through a post-secondary institution such as the Metropolitan Community Colleges.

Other Credit Options (Correspondence/On-line)

In addition to courses provided through R-7 Online Academy, the Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP) offers online courses for students statewide.

Early College Program-MCC Dual Enrollment

The Early College Program is a dual enrollment program that provides a guided pathway for students to complete up to 15 hours of college credit per semester while still in high school. 

Missouri Seal of Biliteracy

The Missouri Seal of Biliteracy is an award granted by a local district to recognize a student who has attained proficiency in English and one or more other world language(s) before high school graduation.
