Students will experience activities, problems, and projects that explore aspects of agriculture and environmental studies including: plants, animals, natural resources, and agricultural mechanics. This course introduces students to the range of agricultural and environmental studies opportunities and the pathways of study they may pursue. Students explore career and post-secondary opportunities and develop employability skills through practical applications in each area of the course such as soil, water, animals, plants, energy, technology, and research. While surveying the opportunities available in agriculture and environmental studies, students learn to solve problems, research, analyze data, work in teams, and take responsibility for their work, actions, and learning. Students investigate, experiment, and learn about documenting a project, solving problems, and communicating their solutions to their peers and members of the professional community. Students will investigate and experiment in areas like soil science, water systems, animal science, plant science, energy, technology, and research methods. An important co-curricular component of the course is participation in FFA and FFA activities, which are in-person.
