Grade 9-12

Credit: 1 unit
PREREQUISITE:
None

Mandarin Chinese I is an introductory course for students targeting the novice-mid ACTFL proficiency level. Through stories, interactive communication, and cultural exploration, students develop basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Units focus on everyday topics, including greetings, family, global friendships, and daily routines. Learners practice asking and answering simple questions, describing people and activities, and expressing likes, dislikes, and feelings. By the end of the course, students can communicate about familiar topics using memorized words and phrases and demonstrate awareness of Chinese culture and daily life. Because this class emphasizes communication, regular attendance is required. This class is not intended for native speakers. Chinese I may meet in combined classes with another level of Chinese. This class may not be offered at every building every year.
