MANDARIN CHINESE II
Grade 9-12
Credit: 1 unit
PREREQUISITE: C- or above in previous course or teacher approval
Mandarin Chinese 2 targets the novice-high ACTFL proficiency level. Students expand their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while communicating about daily life, personal experiences, and cultural perspectives. Units include Respecting Others & Positional Phrases, My Room and “Easy Life” as a Student, Navigating School Life, and Sickness and Symptoms, covering topics such as perspectives, routines, school activities, directions, and health. By the end of the course, students can describe routines, express preferences and feelings, discuss basic health needs, understand short stories and proverbs, and demonstrate awareness of Chinese culture. Because this class emphasizes communication, regular attendance is required. Chinese II may meet in combined classes with another level of Chinese. This class may not be offered at every building every year.
