One-year program: This course will provide students with a coherent perspective of the relationship between environmental
systems and societies. Understanding this relationship allows students to adopt an informed personal response to the wide range
of pressing environmental issues. Students’ attention can be constantly drawn to their own relationship with their environment and
the significance of choices and decisions that they make. It is intended that students develop a sound understanding of the
interrelationships between environmental systems and societies beyond the purely journalistic appreciation of environmental
issues. This course allows students to evaluate the scientific, ethical and socio-political aspects of issues relating to the
environment. Refer to the Advanced Studies section for IB distinctions, grading, testing and exam fee requirements.
