AEROSPACE ACADEMY

Credits: 3 units, 1.5 Fall Semester, 1.5 Spring Semester
DUAL CREDIT: UCM AVIA 1020, 1211, 1212, 1213, 1310, 1903 (11 credits available to eligible students)

PREREQUISITE: GPA: 2.5 cumulative or higher; Attendance: 90% or higher; Algebra I with a B- or higher;Reading/Writing:10th
grade level.
Recommended: Average Math and Engineering grade: B- or higher; Aerospace Engineering (AE) is highly recommended for students interested in aerospace career paths.
 
Have you ever wanted to design, maintain, or pilot an airplane, drone or rocket? Are you interested in a deeper understanding of what it takes to work in the Aviation and Aerospace fields? The STA Aerospace Academy Capstone provides advanced level preparation for students pursuing careers in seven aviation/aerospace pathways. This program represents a collaboration between STA, the City of Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council, Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport and includes potential lab opportunities for students at the airport. Students will learn cutting-edge curriculum developed by subject matter experts in aerospace/aviation and provides students with the information needed to successfully pass the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 107 Commercial Drone Operator & Private Pilot Written Knowledge examinations. As well as career exploration for the seven aerospace workforce pathways, applied learning experiences at various local airports/universities, hands-on learning utilizing industry equipment, certified flight simulators, commercial grade drones and field experiences within one or more of the seven aerospace pathways.  More information can be found at: https://sta.lsr7.org/academics/engineering/aa
